More information:
This application is a simple database reporting application that implements a true distributed n-tier architecture using disconnected datasets. It consists of (1) a VB .NET Windows Forms client that retrieves disconnected datasets from (2) an XML Web service, which in turn interacts with (3) a remote database server, which in this case is SQL Server, but which can be any OLEDB compliant database server such as Oracle or DB2. All database connections are handled by the XML Web service, not the Windows Forms client, so you do not need to install the SQL Server client software on each client workstation. Data retrieval is asynchronous, which means the user can cancel a long-running query simply by hitting the Escape key any time before the query has completed.
